Reinstalling macOS

  1. Enter Recovery Mode
  2. Select Reinstall macOS Tahoe
  3. Follow the prompts

This installs a fresh copy of macOS while keeping your files, apps, and settings. It's the equivalent of a "repair install."

Erasing and Starting Fresh

If you need a completely clean start:

  1. Enter Recovery Mode
  2. Open Disk Utility
  3. Select your internal drive (Macintosh HD)
  4. Click Erase (choose APFS format)
  5. Close Disk Utility
  6. Select Reinstall macOS

Warning: This erases everything. Make sure you have a Time Machine backup first.
