Slow Mac
Quick Fixes
- Restart your Mac: Apple menu > Restart. This clears temporary files and refreshes system processes.
- Check Activity Monitor: Search "Activity Monitor" in Spotlight. Sort by CPU or Memory to find resource hogs.
- Close unused apps:
Cmd + Tabto see what's running.Cmd + Qto quit apps you're not using. - Check storage: System Settings > General > Storage. If you're under 10GB free, your Mac will slow down.
Deeper Fixes
- Reduce Login Items: System Settings > General > Login Items. Remove apps you don't need at startup.
- Update macOS: System Settings > General > Software Update. Updates often fix performance issues.
- Reset SMC: On Apple Silicon/A-series Macs, simply shut down, wait 30 seconds, and restart. There's no separate SMC reset needed.
- Safe Mode: Shut down, then press and hold the power button. Select your startup disk, then hold
Shiftand click "Continue in Safe Mode." This clears caches and runs basic diagnostics.
