ThinkPad USB-C Hybrid Dock

The Lenovo ThinkPad USB-C Hybrid Dock (40AF) works with the MacBook Neo over USB-C. It was designed for ThinkPads but functions as a standard USB-C dock on macOS.

macOS Compatibility Notes

• DisplayLink required: the dock uses DisplayLink for both video outputs. You must install DisplayLink Manager (search "DisplayLink" in the Mac App Store or download from Apple support) for external displays to work.
• Screen Recording permission: DisplayLink on macOS requires Screen Recording access. macOS will prompt you on first use. Grant it in System Settings > Privacy & Security > Screen Recording > DisplayLink Manager.
• Charging: the dock charges the MacBook Neo through USB-C while connected (90W max, more than enough for the Neo's 30W requirement)
• Ethernet: works natively, no drivers needed
• USB ports: all USB-A ports work for keyboards, mice, storage, etc.

Setup Steps

1. Download and install DisplayLink Manager from the Mac App Store or the DisplayLink downloads page
2. Open DisplayLink Manager: it lives in the menu bar (top-right, look for the DisplayLink icon)
3. When prompted, grant Screen Recording permission in System Settings > Privacy & Security
4. Restart your Mac (recommended after first install)
5. Connect the dock's USB-C cable to your MacBook Neo
6. Connect the Samsung monitor to the dock via DisplayPort (or HDMI)
7. Connect power adapter to the dock
8. The external display should appear within a few seconds
9. Go to System Settings > Displays to arrange screens

Troubleshooting

Issue	Fix
Monitor not detected	Make sure DisplayLink Manager is installed and running (check the menu bar icon). Open it and verify it shows "Connected".
Monitor blank after sleep	Known DisplayLink issue. Unplug and re-plug the USB-C cable, or click the DisplayLink menu bar icon and toggle the display off/on.
Screen Recording permission	DisplayLink won't output video without this. Go to System Settings > Privacy & Security > Screen Recording and enable DisplayLink Manager.
Charging not working through dock	Make sure the dock's power adapter is connected. The Neo needs the dock powered to pass through charging.
USB devices not recognized	Try different USB-A ports on the dock. Reset the dock by unplugging power for 10 seconds.
Ethernet not showing up	Go to System Settings > Network. The dock's Ethernet should appear automatically. If not, click + to add it.
DisplayLink Manager not starting	Check System Settings > General > Login Items and make sure DisplayLink Manager is enabled.

Samsung External Monitor

Connection

The Samsung monitor connects to the ThinkPad dock via DisplayPort (recommended) or HDMI.

macOS Display Settings

After connecting, configure the monitor in System Settings > Displays:

Refresh Rate	60Hz (or higher if your Samsung panel supports it)
Color Profile	sRGB IEC61966-2.1 (default, good for most use)
Arrangement	Drag to position the external display relative to your MacBook screen
Primary Display	Drag the white menu bar to the Samsung to make it primary

Recommended macOS Settings for External Monitors

• System Settings > Displays > Night Shift: set a schedule to reduce blue light in the evening
• System Settings > Desktop & Dock > Automatically hide and show the Dock: saves screen space on the external monitor
• System Settings > Desktop & Dock > Displays have separate Spaces: keep this ON so each screen gets its own Mission Control spaces

Tips

• Hot corners: set a hot corner on the external monitor for Mission Control (System Settings > Desktop & Dock > Hot Corners)
• Close the lid: the MacBook Neo runs in clamshell mode when connected to power + external monitor + external keyboard/mouse. Just close the lid and use the Samsung as your only screen.
• Quick switch: press Cmd + F1 to toggle display mirroring on/off
• Move windows between screens: drag a window to the edge, or use a window manager like Rectangle (free) for keyboard shortcuts
