What Syncs Automatically
Once you sign in with your Apple Account, these sync across all your devices:
- iCloud Drive: files and folders (like OneDrive or Google Drive)
- Photos: full-resolution photos and videos
- Keychain: passwords, passkeys, Wi-Fi credentials
- Safari: bookmarks, tabs, reading list
- Notes, Reminders, Calendar: all your productivity data
- Desktop & Documents: optionally sync these folders to iCloud
Setting Up iCloud Drive
System Settings > [Your Name] > iCloud > iCloud Drive
- Desktop & Documents Folders: turn on to access these from any device
- Optimize Mac Storage: keeps only recent files locally, downloads on demand (good for small SSDs)
Storage
You get 5 GB free. For real use, you'll want a paid plan:
| Plan | Price/month | Good For |
|---|---|---|
| 50 GB | $0.99 | Light use, backups |
| 200 GB | $2.99 | Photos + documents |
| 2 TB | $9.99 | Full ecosystem, family sharing |
| 6 TB | $29.99 | Professionals, large media libraries |
| 12 TB | $59.99 | Maximum storage |
Tip: If you use OneDrive for work, you don't need to move everything to iCloud. See Cloud Storage Strategy for how to use both.
